SOUNDCLOUD
SoundCloud is a European online audio distribution platform and music sharing website that enables its users to upload, promote, and share audio. Started in 2007, SoundCloud has grown to be one of the largest music streaming services in the market reaching over 175 million monthly users worldwide. SoundCloud offers both free and paid membership on the platform, available for desktop or mobile device. SoundCloud has influenced the music industry through the success of many artists who have emerged from the music-sharing service. Artists on the platform are able to distribute their work for free that can be accessed by all users. SoundCloud has received support from many investors and other media platforms such as Twitter, although the streaming platform itself has dealt with funding issues and has laid off many employees in order to remain profitable.
YOUTUBE
Youtube needs no introduction because it is known by everyone. Although it is one of the most used platforms, it is not a real social (or community) as comments disperse among the scroll of the list
BANDCAMP
Although it is not a real social media bandcamp is famous for being the best portal for emerging artists and independent producers. It offers an interface that allows you to customize your home page, selling your music with a very detailed setting of parameters and costs.
JAMENDO
Jamendo is a social-community that offers the possibility of presenting the music of emerging artists, and the possibility of downloading music for free. It is in fact one of the best known and best reviewed portals for downloading music without copyright. It offers a large number of songs but above all of great quality.
LASTFM
Using a music recommender system called “Audioscrobbler”, Last.fm builds a detailed profile of each user’s musical taste by recording details of the tracks the user listens to, either from Internet radio stations, or the user’s computer or many portable music devices. This information is transferred (“scrobbled”) to Last.fm’s database either via the music player itself (including, among others Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, and MusicBee) or via a plug-in installed into the user’s music player. The data is then displayed on the user’s profile page and compiled to create reference pages for individual artists.
8TRACK
It offers a simple way for people to share and discover music through an online mix, a short playlist containing at least 8 tracks. On 8tracks, people can do two things: listen to a mix, or create a mix. Listeners can search for a mix by artist or genre, stream it in a legal, radio-style manner, and follow others who make compelling mixes. DJs upload MP3s or AACs to craft a playlist, add context
with description and art, and publish their mix on 8tracks.com and a personal webpage.
MIXCLOUD
Mixcloud is re-thinking radio. Listen to great radios shows, Podcasts and DJ mix sets on-demand. Upload and promote your own Cloudcast for free.
