On the occasion of the 2019 The Game Awards, Phil Spencer surprises Los Angeles audiences by officially announcing Xbox Series X, the next-gen console to be launched at Christmas 2020.

The Redmond company called it the fastest and most powerful console ever created by the company and is set to be a real benchmark for all living room platforms and consoles.

Based on rumors circulating on the net in recent months, Project Scarlett (and therefore Xbox Series X) should boast 16 GB of RAM (including 3 GB to be used for operating system management), a computational power of 12 Teraflops, support to Ray Tracing, a hyper-fast SSD drive and full backwards compatibility with all games from previous generations of Xbox consoles.

The Xbox Series X looks a lot like a PC, a choice that perhaps was made for the important technical features of a console that will open the track to a new generation of video games coming up starting from the Christmas holidays 2020, when the new Xbox will clash with PlayStation 5, which at this point remains the only console to be announced officially in the coming months. “It will be four times more powerful than Xbox One X, but it will also be quiet and energy efficient,” explained Phil Spence.

Microsoft has also unveiled the new controller. It is very similar in design to the current one, but slightly refined. Among the new features there is a share button via which you can take screenshots and record game videos, as is already the case for PlayStation 4. The controller is slightly smaller than the current one, but will continue to support vibration in the dorsal triggers. The Xbox Series X controller will also be compatible with the Xbox currently on the market and PCs with the Windows 10 operating system.
