on the beach they are miracles of refreshment

unique in the velar the glimpse of the sea
they are preparing for the abode of a Frankish king

ANZIO (Rome) – PHOTO – October 2021

Have you ever been to the Tyrrhenian (west) coast of Italy? I a few times. One such time was in October 2021. Although autumn has entered for several days, the climate breathed in Anzio was pleasant. I could even notice some people sunbathing. Anzio is famous for being the town that allowed the Americans to land in Italy in the Second World War. It is obviously a seaside town, and although it has not large beaches, it has a large marina, which houses a myriad of boats inside. In the town you can admire many villas (unique in the world) overlooking the promontory with a breathtaking view.

Mourning in US politics: Colin Powell is dead

Born in Harlem, he was the first African American secretary of state in the history of the United States. The family: “We have lost a husband, a father and a great American.”

Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell died today at the age of 84. According to what the family communicated on his Facebook page, the cause of death would be attributed to “complications related to Covid-19”. It is not known at the moment what kind of illness was fatal to him.

While the reactions of the White House are awaited, former Republican President George W. Bush commented on the news through an official statement, declaring himself “deeply sorry” for the loss of a figure who marked American foreign policy during the years of the presidency of he. Colin Powell was “a great public servant from the time he served as a soldier in Vietnam,” adds the Republican. “He is highly respected at home and abroad. And more importantly, Colin was a family man and friend. Laura and I send our sincere condolences to Alma and their children, ”adds the note. Bush’s words were joined by the first reactions from the world of politics and the military: «The world has lost one of the greatest leaders. He has been my mentor for years, with him I also lose an extraordinary friend, “commented Pentagon number one, Lloyd J. Austin. Among the first to express condolences was General Martin Dempsey, former US Chief of Staff, followed by Republican Senator Mitt Romney, who defined Powell as «a man of indomitable courage devoted to the cause of freedom.

He remained in office from January 2001 to January 2005, and is best remembered for his speech at the United Nations Council on February 5, 2003 in which he supported the existence of evidence – by exhibiting a vial that contained a white powder – on the possession of weapons of mass destruction by Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi regime to justify military intervention.

Speaking of the biological weapons in Iraq’s possession, Powell showed representatives of other countries, with a very theatrical gesture, a vial that contained a white powder. Powell added that Iraq could have produced about 25,000 liters of anthrax, according to UN inspectors. The speech was so dramatic and effective that even many American liberal commentators, tending to be unfavorable to the policies of the Bush administration, were influenced by it in saying that they were convinced of the reality of the danger represented by Iraq.

Anthrax had been a very real danger for a few months in previous years: after the 9/11 attacks five people died and another 17 were infected by a series of letters containing small amounts of anthrax. In the months following the February 5 speech, it was discovered that much of the information and reconstructions presented by Colin Powell to members of the Security Council were false.

There were no mobile laboratories or huge arsenals of weapons of mass destruction. Much later, in the summer of 2008, the investigation into the anthrax attacks also ended: the FBI said it had gathered enough evidence to say that the culprit was Bruce E. Ivins, a microbiologist who worked for the government. that he was not tried because he had killed himself a few weeks before the announcement. In February 2005, Powell called his speech to the United Nations Security Council – and the exposition of the arguments produced by the American and British secret services – a “stain” on his career.

18th October ’21: Alaska Day

Alaska Day (Russian: День Аляски) is a legal holiday in the U.S. state of Alaska, observed on October 18. It is the anniversary of the formal transfer of the Territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States, which occurred on Friday, October 18, 1867.

On March 30, 1867, the United States purchased Alaska from the Russian Empire for the sum of $7.2 million. It was not until October of that year that the commissioners arrived in Sitka and the formal transfer was arranged. The formal flag-raising took place at Fort Sitka on October 18, 1867. The original ceremony included 250 United States Army troops, who marched to the governor’s house at “Castle Hill“. Here the Russian soldiers lowered the Russian flag and the U.S. flag was raised.

The official account of the affair as presented by General Lovell Rousseau to Secretary of State William H. Seward:

... The troops being promptly formed, were, at precisely half past three o’clock, brought to a ‘present arms’, the signal given to the Ossipee … which was to fire the salute, and the ceremony was begun by lowering the Russian flag … The United States flag … was properly attached and began its ascent, hoisted by my private secretary [and son], George Lovell Rousseau, and again salutes were fired as before, the Russian water battery leading off. The flag was so hoisted that in the instant it reached its place the report of the big gun of the Ossipee reverberated from the mountains around … Captain Pestchouroff stepped up to me and said, ‘General Rousseau, by authority from his Majesty the Emperor of Russia, I transfer to the United States the Territory of Alaska’ and in a few words I acknowledged the acceptance of the transfer, and the ceremony was at an end.”

Alaska’s territorial legislature declared Alaska Day a holiday in 1917. It is a paid holiday for state employees. The official celebration is held in Sitka, where schools release students early, many businesses close for the day, and events such as a parade and reenactment of the flag raising are held.

It should not be confused with Seward’s Day, the last Monday in March, another state holiday which commemorates the signing of the treaty for the Alaska Purchase in which the U.S. purchased Alaska from Russia on March 30, 1867.

Alaska Day is protested by some Alaska Native people who view the holiday as a celebration of the violence used to take their land away. Native organizers assert that the land was not Russia’s to sell in the first place, therefore the sale of the land to the U.S. is illegitimate.

And if everyone has their preferences for the messaging system, it is clear that the functionalities that observe Telegram have not passed, indeed they are precisely those that have resulted in the success that the app has today. The phenomenon of kidnappings for extortion purposes in Haiti does not stop, a real emergency that does not spare religious, politicians, businessmen but also ordinary people. In June, the Italian engineer Giovanni Calì was kidnapped and released after 22 days.
Several criminal gangs are engaged in this kind of activity, in particular the “400 Mawozo” group, author of numerous kidnappings especially in the area of the capital Port-au-Prince and the border with the Dominican Republic.
Just the “400 Mawozo” would be responsible for the kidnapping yesterday of about fifteen people, American Protestant pastors with their families, including children. The incident occurred about thirty kilometers east of the capital: the bus on which the shepherds and their families were traveling was stopped by criminals, who kidnapped them and took them to unknown places.
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, shaken by earthquakes and a serious political crisis following the killing of President Jovenel Moïse in July. It is estimated that at least 600 individuals have been kidnapped in the Caribbean country since the beginning of the year.

♬ Adele – Easy On Me

“Easy on Me” is a song recorded by English singer-songwriter Adele for her upcoming fourth studio album, 30 (2021). It was released on 15 October 2021 by Columbia Records as the lead single from the album, marking the first release from the singer in five years. “Easy on Me” was produced by American record producer Greg Kurstin, who also co-wrote the song with Adele. A minimally produced ballad, “Easy on Me” is set to a prominent, sombre piano, propelled by sparse bass beats.

Expressing themes of nostalgia, regret, and forgiveness, the song’s lyrics represent Adele’s plea to her son, asking him to help her reorganise her life post-divorce. Music critics reviewed “Easy on Me” positively, praising its poignant lyrics and emotional vocals, though some opined it did not match the heights of her previous singles. An accompanying music video, directed by Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan and shot in Sutton, Quebec, was released on 15 October 2021, continuing the setting established in the music video for Adele’s 2015 song “Hello”, where she is seen entering a furnished house. In the “Easy on Me” video, Adele vacates the house and drives off in a truck, while a pile of sheet music flies out of its windows, littering the road. “Easy on Me” garnered the Spotify and Amazon Music records for the most streams for a song in a day.

During an interview with Vogue, it was revealed that long-time collaborator Greg Kurstin worked on the song. The staff at Capital FM interpreted the song title as documenting the “start of a blossoming relationship”. On 9 October, the singer shared a 40-second preview of the song via Instagram Live. “Easy on Me” was released on 15 October 2021, to all digital music platforms. It marked the first single by Adele in five years.
Composition and lyrics

“Easy on Me” is a simplistic piano ballad with bass drum beats joining halfway. The hook consists of the song’s title sung in a prominently elongated melody. The song is written in the key of F major with a slow tempo of 70 beats per minute. Lyrically, Adele addresses her nine-year-old son in the song, explaining to him her divorce from his father and beseeching him to be “easy on [her]”.

There ain’t no gold in this river
That I’ve been washing my hands in forever
I know there is hope in these waters
But I can’t bring myself to swim
When I am drowning in this silence
Baby, let me in

Go easy on me, baby
I was still a child
Didn’t get the chance to
Feel the world around me
I had no time to choose what I chose to do
So go easy on me

There ain’t no room for things to change
When we are both so deeply stuck in our ways
You can’t deny how hard I have tried
I changed who I was to put you both first
But now I give up

Go easy on me, baby
I was still a child
Didn’t get the chance to
Feel the world around me
Had no time to choose what I chose to do
So go easy on me

I had good intentions
And the highest hopes
But I know right now
It probably doesn’t even show

Go easy on me, baby
I was still a child
I didn’t get the chance to
Feel the world around me
I had no time to choose what I chose to do
So go easy on me

Traduzoine testo (italian)

Non c’è oro in questo fiume
Dove da sempre mi lavo le mani
So che c’è speranza in queste acque
Ma non riesco a trovare la forza per nuotare
Mentre sto annegando nel silenzio
Baby, fammi entrare

Vacci piano con me baby
Ero ancora una bambina
Non ho avuto la possibilità di
Sentire il mondo intorno a me

Sentire il mondo intorno a me
Non ho avuto tempo di scegliere cosa ho scelto di fare
Quindi vacci piano con me

Avevo buone intenzioni
E le più grandi speranze
Ma adesso lo so
Probabilmente non si vede neanche

Vacci piano con me baby
Ero ancora una bambina
Non ho avuto la possibilità di
Sentire il mondo intorno a me
Non ho avuto tempo di scegliere cosa ho scelto di fare
Quindi vacci piano con me
