World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day or International Day of the Book, is an annual event organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote reading, publishing, and copyright. The first World Book Day was celebrated on 23 April in 1995, and continues to be recognized on that day. A related event in the United and Ireland is observed in March. On the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, UNESCO along with the advisory committee from the major sectors of the book industry, select the World Book Capital for one year. Each designated World Book Capital City carries out a program of activities to celebrate and promote books and reading.
The original idea was conceived in 1922 by Spanish writer Vicente Clavel Andrés as a way to honour the author Miguel de Cervantes. It was first celebrated on 7 October 1926, Cervantes’ birthday, before being moved to his death date, 23 April, in 1930. The celebration continued to enjoy great popularity in Spain, especially in Catalonia, where it coincides with the Diada de Sant Jordi, the patron saint of Catalonia. The Diada usually involves the exchange of gifts between loved ones and, since the 1931 Book Fair in Barcelona, the gifts are a book and a rose.In 1995, UNESCO decided that the World Book and Copyright Day would be celebrated on 23 April, as the date is also the anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, as well as that of the birth or death of several other prominent authors. (In a historical coincidence, Shakespeare and Cervantes died on the same date — 23 April 1616 — but not on the same day, as at the time, Spain used the Gregorian calendar and England used the Julian calendar; Shakespeare actually died 10 days after Cervantes died, on 3 May of the Gregorian calendar.)
Our while should always be forged by culture .. and especially in a period like this, in which technology has taken over, the book (symbol of culture) should remain the tool with which to forge our mind. But often it is others who forge ours mind and it is hoped that culture always heals what is inside … because even false cultures must be identified …
Information we have been given is only “the tip of an iceberg”.
The book about the largest sinking ship “Titan” was written 14yrs before the actual sinking of the Titanic.
People in the picture appear to be reading the book.
Almost all the objects of technology remain today as predatory sharks of our soul and the good book is certainly the only means by which to isolate oneself on the island of one’s soul …
Paradoxical that the most widespread social network refers to the book … Even if books can be read on new technological devices, cards and books remain the only means by which to be able to fully isolate oneself with one’s thoughts and your dreams.
I have tried to read books on ebook readers more than once but it is not the same thing. When you read a book on printed paper, your eyes and thoughts are not distracted even by the pleasure of writing, perfectly visualized …
The system brings us to the mass, and when our desires are fulfilled we feel the need to satisfy them daily. I have never loved Facebook, but everyone would realize that in Europe there are now more people who do not have this social network than people who have it. Pawel kuczysnki’s designs are as always brilliant. And the meaning is undoubtedly that we often confuse real bread with other futile things, which deceive us daily. The system of society and the mass deceives us about our needs, making us mistake the priorities and choices .. This world must always be seen from above and trying to see what remains above us.
How much does our culture influence our character and our life? A lot if what we learn influences us in an unconscious way, that is, so that in the moment in which we do something we are not aware of it.
Although some things enlighten us, we cannot put them into practice. Often the things we learn do not enter our minds and we “forget” them. Thus culture and our cultural baggage must be cultivated constantly, even a little a day …
Our soul is not formed in one blow. But you need constancy and patience. Modeling the character can take a long time. We often forget our aspirations for fatigue, for distractions, or for lack of tenacity. The book represents the icon of our soul, of our history but also of our memories. Sometimes it is mandatory to dust off certain pages of our luggage.
How many books do we read? Quantity is probably important but not everything. Quality is often fundamental, and choosing your book to suit your tastes and attitudes is the best way to create a small library of culture.
We often read without understanding because they are full of thoughts in our heads or because we don’t read often. It also depends on the genre of books: the most difficult are the intricate stories full of characters (mystery and novels) but also treatises on Philosophy.
If your intent is to have fun and not be too focused on the logic of the book, take a leisure book, I am convinced that the quality of the reading is usually more important than the content.
The length of the book is relative. If the book is very exciting we would like the book to never end. Instead some people prefer to read more books but short ones.
A book that has captured us represents a piece of our soul to be kept both in the library of books and in the library of one’s mind.
This time it remains difficult to extrapolate a reflection, but I try anyway
Even the dogs have a virtual world, in which the friends sniff each other, probably at the tail.
The virtual world always exists even when we interpret on the street the clothes of a character who does not belong to us. So the dogs created their world with the tail wagging.
If anyone has any better insights, suggest me! Good evening!
Algosh, Iraq, 1989. During an archaeological excavation Hiram Donovan uncovers a piece of meticulously knapped obsidian. Instinct tells him to hide it from others on the dig, so he sends it back to his wife in America with a note: John Dee, British Museum/Scrying stone? Days later Hiram is murdered with it made to look like an accident. But there was a witness..
