The European Parliament has expressed itself: we are moving towards a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles starting from 2035

From 2035 it will no longer be possible to sell new endothermic cars. It is on this premise that the European Parliament expressed itself on 8 June. A result that did not come easily, and which led to a split in the majority, and which will have to be confirmed in the EU Council. Now, in fact, there is a negotiation phase, with the document that will be passed on to the Commission for the interinstitutional negotiations envisaged by the European regulations with the EU Council. It is therefore a new series of negotiations between Parliament, the Council and the Commission.

Beyond the frictions, however, this is an epochal moment, with the part dedicated to 4 wheels which was welcomed with 339 votes in favor, 249 against and 24 abstentions. The document follows the Fit for 55 plan strongly desired by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen with the aim of drastically reducing CO2 emissions.

Ursula von der Leyen

Rejected the amendments proposed by the EPP, with which it was asked to apply the obligation of zero emissions to 90% of the entire car fleet, instead of 100%. This may allow for the introduction of 10% of new thermal vehicles from 2035 onwards, making the provision less restrictive. However, the fact that the amendments did not provide for a deadline for this derogation ran counter to the climate neutrality target already set for 2050. The two amendments were rejected with 264 votes in favor, 328 against and 10 abstentions.

The amendment that passed, however, is the so-called “save Motor Valley”, expressly addressed to Italy with an exemption on CO2 emissions standards up to 2036 reserved for those houses that produce a maximum of 10 thousand vehicles per year . This is obviously a proposal aimed at protecting the car companies of the Italian Motor Valley that focus on quality rather than quantity.

The majority in Parliament was not cohesive, in the vote on the controversial trading system for emissions quotas (Ets) with which the aim is to tax CO2 emissions is suitable for road transport and boilers, including domestic ones. The reform was blocked by the Socialists after an EPP amendment was passed in the classroom which postponed the elimination of the free emission allowances enjoyed by large European industry to the period between 2028 and 2034 (originally scheduled for 2026-32). The chapters Ets, Social Fund for the Climate and carbon tax at the borders thus return to the Environment Committee.

Universal USB-C charger, the EU directive arrives.

The EU institutions sold have reached an agreement on the directive that will oblige all future smartphones in the EU, including Apple’s iPhone, to be equipped with the universal USB-C port for cable charging. Smartphones, tablets, e-readers, cameras and other electronic devices assigned as an exception to the legislation by the autumn of 2024, while it was envisaged for laptops, it is set at 40 months from adoption. EU lawmakers say this is due to the difficulty of making a standard charger that applies to laptops with different power requirements.

The Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee of the European Parliament has been working on the legislation for many years, but there have been slowdowns due to a series of objections. The strongest of the complaints came, of course, from Apple, which defended the possibility of using its Lighting connector.

Universal USB-C charger

The aim of the European institutions is, however, to favor a fast charging technology as standardized as possible, which can allow users, separated from the device, to act at the same speed with any charger. In addition, we aim to avoid having a charger in every package of a new device, in order to avoid the multiplication of electronic waste.

The EU estimates that the legislation could save consumers € 250 million per year on “unnecessary battery charger purchases” and cut electronic waste by around 11,000 tonnes per year.

The legislation has yet to be approved by the Parliament and the Council of the EU, although this step is an indicator as a formality. In a press release, the European Parliament clearly stated that the law will be in “by autumn 2024”. By that date, all devices covered by law and sold in the EU to use the USB-C cable charging port.

Apple could get around this by putting in place a wireless charging system for its upcoming iPhones (as well as other devices) marketed in Europe. According to other rumors, however, Cupertino is working on the first iPhones with a USB-C port (Apple already has a catalog of some laptop and tablet devices with this port).

Mandatory photovoltaic panels, and 100% energy independent houses. The decision for the future of Europe

The European Commission is pushing to decrease the dependence of Member States on fossil fuels, not only for mobility, but also and and for the energy used above all by buildings. The new plan launched, RePowerEU, which also contains interesting news regarding solar energy, goes in this direction.

As stated in the full text published, with the intention of reducing the use of Russian gas, new regulations will come regarding solar panels (photovoltaic and thermal) on the roofs of buildings of all kinds. In detail, the installation of solar energy systems will be mandatory in the following cases:

all new public or commercial buildings, with a usable area of more than 250 m2, by 2026
all existing public or commercial buildings, with a usable area of more than 250 m2, by 2027
all new residential buildings, enters 2029
RePower EU

It is also mentioned the push and the facilitation, for those who live in multi-apartment complexes, towards self-consumption from collective systems.

All these regulations point straight towards the one probably more ambitious, and more difficult to implement, namely that starting from 2030 all new buildings, including residential ones, produce a quantity of energy, to be returned 100% independent. Production, therefore, from solar plants must be on a par with consumption.

28th January (’22): European Data Privacy Day

Data Privacy Day (known in Europe as Data Protection Day) is an international event that occurs every year on 28 January. The purpose of Data Privacy Day is to raise awareness and promote privacy and data protection best practices. It is currently observed in the United States, Canada, Nigeria, Israel and 47 European countries.

Data Privacy Day’s educational initiative originally focused on raising awareness among businesses as well as users about the importance of protecting the privacy of their personal information online, particularly in the context of social networking. The educational focus has expanded over the years to include families, consumers and businesses. In addition to its educational initiative, Data Privacy Day promotes events and activities that stimulate the development of technology tools that promote individual control over personally identifiable information; encourage compliance with privacy laws and regulations; and create dialogues among stakeholders interested in advancing data protection and privacy. The international celebration offers many opportunities for collaboration among governments, industry, academia, nonprofits, privacy professionals and educators.

The Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data was opened for signature by the Council of Europe on 28 January 1981. This convention is currently in the process of being updated in order to reflect new legal challenges caused by technological development. The Convention on Cybercrime is also protecting the integrity of data systems and thus of privacy in cyberspace. Privacy including data protection is also protected by Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

The day was initiated by the Council of Europe to be first held in 2007 as the European Data Protection Day. Two years later, on 26 January 2009, the United States House of Representatives passed House Resolution HR 31 by a vote of 402–0, declaring 28 January National Data Privacy Day. On 28 January 2009, the Senate passed Senate Resolution 25 also recognizing 28 January 2009 as National Data Privacy Day. The United States Senate also recognized Data Privacy Day in 2010 and 2011.

In 2022, The Rise of Privacy Tech (TROPT) expanded Data Privacy Day celebrations into Data Privacy Week, kicking off the week with TROPT Data Privacy Week 2022, followed by a live TROPT Webcast Data Privacy Day broadcast, and a TROPT Innovators networking social.

The singular case of the world: The vaccination regime in Italy …

Mario Draghi, current president of the Italian Council (since February 2021) and former president of the European central bank.

At the moment in Italy there are 49 million inhabitants (crica) who have completed the vaccination cycle with the two doses which corresponds to 79.38% of the population over 12. A percentage certainly not low but not high, considering that in Italy it was imposed the mandatory vaccine. Or rather, the mandatory green pass has been imposed as a ploy to encourage people to vaccinate. In reality, however, this incentive is an obligation because the green pass acquired with the swab in practice cannot be applied every day, both for an economic and practical reason.
Who does not have the green pass is suspended from work.
At the moment the only two countries that have adopted this policy are Italy and Saudi Arabia.
Understanding why it has come to this point is complex to explain it in two lines, but surely there are some reasons, albeit not very relevant: Italy still has a high number of daily deaths and moreover the places in intensive care are not as numerous as those of others European countries such as Germany or France.
What is surprising, however, is not only the measure imposed in Italy, but also the communication with which the measures are adopted.
In September, this obligation popped up overnight as if nothing had happened and the newspapers made no criticism. Moreover, since the appointment of Draghi as premier, no newspaper has dared to give a more heated criticism. And so the Italians, in addition to some vulgar criticism of this obligation, resigned themselves to a country with less and less freedom. Obviously the obligation of the green pass will avoid any lockdowns that could regress an economy already sunk for years, but the obligation is something that overrides any right and freedom.
The discomfort is that those who fight against this obligation are those who violently protest in the streets, and those who calmly defend the idea of no-vax are no longer believed.

Mario Draghi took office since February 2021, when the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, proposed him to the chambers of parliament, which in the previous weeks had discouraged Giuseppe Conte, who despite his less noble name and curriculum, has brought results in Italy never seen before: laws against corruption, citizenship income, pre-retirement etc …

26th September: European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages is observed 26 September, as proclaimed by the Council of Europe on 6 December 2001, at the end of the European Year of Languages (2001), which had been jointly organised by the Council of Europe and the European Union.[1] Its aim is to encourage language learning across Europe.

The general objectives of the European Day of Languages are to:

In keeping with these rules, people, young and old, are encouraged to take up a language, or take special pride in their existing language skills. Also, those responsible for providing access to language learning are encouraged to make it easier for people to learn a range of languages, and to support policy initiatives to promote languages. There is also emphasis on learning a language other than English.

On the occasion of the day, a range of events are organised across Europe,[2][3] including those for children, television and radio programmes, language classes and conferences. The events are not organised by the Council of Europe or the European Union nor do they allocate special funding (i.e. apart from their existing language programmes) for the day. Member states and potential partners are given a free hand to organise activities. To coordinate the activities organised at national level, the Council of Europe asks participating countries to nominate “National Relay Persons” for the day. The national relay in the UK used to be CILT, the National Centre for Languages.[4]

There are about 225 indigenous languages in Europe – roughly 3% of the world’s total. Most of the European languages are of Indo-European origin. Since the end of the 18th century, the most widespread language of Europe (both in terms of geography and the number of native speakers) has been Russian, which replaced French. Counting only native speakers, approximately 150 million Europeans speak Russian on a daily basis, followed by German (approx. 95 mil.), Turkish (approx. 80 mil.), English and French (each by 65 mil.), Italian ( by 60 mil.), Spanish and Polish (40 mil. each), Ukrainian (30 mil.) and Romanian (26 mil.). As far as foreign language studies are concerned, English is currently the most popular foreign language in Europe, followed by German, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

28th july: European Forest Fire Awareness Day

The Curraggia fire (1983)
The Curraggia fire (1983)

The Curraggia fire was a catastrophe that occurred on July 28, 1983 on the hill of the same name located southwest of the city of Tempio Pausania (Sardinia) and in the neighboring municipalities of Aggius and Bortigiadas.

The huge fire caused 9 deaths and 15 injuries among people trying to put it out. Among the various hypotheses on the causes that triggered the flames, the work of the arsonists is a certainty. The causes were the high summer temperatures of those days and the wind that blew impetuously.

The flames started from the sea, made their way through roads, woods and shrubs in the direction of Tempio Pausania up to the countryside of Bortigiadas and Aggius and then spread on the Curraggia hill, for a total of over 18,000 thousand hectares of land smoke.

On 28 July 2007, the anniversary of the tragedy, the date of the fire was declared European day of awareness against forest fires, by the European regions partners of the Interreg III C OCR Incendi Project, in memory of all the victims who fell in the fight against fire.

Cristiano Ronaldo makes peace with Sarri?

Ronaldo-Juventus-1
Cristiano Ronaldo in the last League game against Milan, is replaced by Dybala (who scored the winning goal) and while CR7 leaves the field he whispers a lip against coach Sarri.

In the last match of the Italian Caldio Championship, we saw CR7 clearly opposed to the replacement decided by coach Sarri. After a few days, C. Ronaldo was called by the national team for two valid matches for the 2020 European qualifiers.

In the first match against Lithuania, won 6-0, Ronaldo scored a hat-trick.

Instead in the second match against Luxembourg, beaten 2-0, he scored a goal, contributing both to the victory of the national team and to the qualification for the Europeans. In fact these were the last games scheduled.

Although Ronaldo after the two victories with the National team has admitted that he was annoyed by the replacement, it is not really known if he made an apology to the Coach. Many argue that this episode could lead to a case of conflict between the champion and the coach. Also some have leaked the news that if Juventus fails to win the Champions League, Ronaldo could leave Juve at the end of the season. Obviously this is now only a rumor, but undoubtedly it is not surprising if Ronaldo’s ambitions are those of European prestige, especially given the fact that the champion has never lost his rivalry with Messi, the eternal rival! It should be noted, however, that Juventus bought Ronaldo last year just to win the champions league, which remains a primary goal, especially for the many finals lost in recent decades.

This year the game does not seem to shine. Except in one of the last Champions League games in which Douglas Costa has made an exceptional triangulation, one of the most beautiful actions of the last few years, there isn’t much of a game at the moment and it is hoped that the team is in a growing phase.

LYRICS

You, you take all of the li-li-light away
But, but then you give me fireworks
I, I think of leaving ni-ni-night and day
But, but then you always find the words
You’re contagious, baby
Love when you love me, hate me
The way you rock, rock, rock my body lately
You set the rain on fire
I wish the lows were higher
Wish I could stop, stop, stop to save me
Oh, I wanna stay, wanna walk out the door
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn
I can’t get enough, can’t take anymore
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn
You dry my tears and make it pour
You show me love and give me war
I can’t get enough, can’t take anymore
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn
I, I always want to run, run, run away
But, but then I’ll crawl into your arms
It, it’s like we’re starting drama every day
But, but you know that’s my favorite part
You’re contagious, baby
Love when you love me, hate me
The way you rock, rock, rock my body lately
You set the rain on fire
I wish the lows were higher
Wish I could stop, stop, stop to save me
Oh, I wanna stay, wanna walk out the door
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn
I can’t get enough, can’t take anymore
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn
You dry my tears and make it pour
You show me love and give me war
I can’t get enough, can’t take anymore
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn
Torn from the pages out of our book
A beautiful tragedy
I’m torn in between heaven and hell
‘Cause baby when I’m with you
I just don’t know where I’d rather be
Oh, I wanna stay, wanna walk out the door
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn
I can’t get enough, can’t take anymore
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn
You dry my tears and make it pour
You show me love and give me war
I can’t get enough, can’t take anymore
Oh no, right now baby I’m torn

TRADUZIONE TESTO

Tu, porti via tutta la luce
Ma, ma poi mi dai i fuochi d’artificio
Io penso di andarmene giorno e notte
Ma, ma poi trovi sempre le parole

Sei contagioso, piccolo
