WhatsApp will release a function to create surveys within groups

WhatsApp is working to allow users to insert surveys within groups: this is what emerges from the latest beta for iOS analyzed by WABetaInfo. The ability to create surveys, rumor already circulated previously, has been confirmed by the presence of screens in the latest beta that show the creation process, with the possibility of asking a question and setting the default answers that the members of the group will be able to answer.

Surveys will be available only in groups and protected by end-to-end encryption: in other words, only users who participate in the group will be able to see the contents of the survey and the results. It is not known, however, when WhatsApp plans to enable this feature for the final version of the app.

Among the other innovations there would also be a tab called “community” which allows users to collect groups and communities for the purpose of better traceability. From the information available, it appears that the “community” card will replace the currently existing “room” card, taking its place.

The polls function will be very similar to what is already available in Telegram, which has already launched the possibility of creating polls within groups since 2018.

The ‘cover photos’ are coming to WhatsApp

There are several features coming to WhatsApp, and among them the development team is working on the cover photos. The “cover photos”, so we could translate them into Italian, will be used to enrich the profile of WhatsApp Business accounts in order to be more recognizable. Together with the “collections”, that is the new method for managing the Catalog, the novelty is designed to put users in contact with companies more and more so that the latter can offer a better support service via chat.

The team behind the messaging app is working to make it possible to configure a cover photo in WhatsApp Business company profiles, a feature that currently seems not to be provided for standard accounts. At the moment it is only present on some selected accounts of users who have decided to participate in the beta program, so not all participants can try it today on their devices. When enabled on your Business profile, the cover photo will be displayed behind the profile photo, and the ability to edit it.

The manager of the WhatsApp Business account can modify the cover photo, through a key represented by a stylized camera: the admin can select an already present photo or take a new one with the camera of the device in use. Once chosen, it will appear on the profile page of the account, along with the traditional profile photo that can also be entered today. The cover photo will be visible to all users who visit the WhatsApp Business account profile, both on iPhone and on any Android device.

As usual, the novelty has been spotted by the prolific WABetaInfo, which, however, does not have information regarding the timing of the release of the novelty. The cover photo is currently under development, and the company has not yet released official information on the matter. Like every feature under test (for example the Reactions on WhatsApp we talked about recently), developers could decide to delete it, without ever presenting it on the stable client for end users.

Telegram boom: 70 million new users during WhatsApp outage

The sensational blocking of social networks of the giant Facebook Inc. which includes: Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp has benefited some platforms, in particular Telegram. The Telegram instant messaging platform is WhatsApp’s “alternative” par excellence, both in terms of users and in terms of functionality.

With the inability to use WhatsApp, Messenger and Direct for over 6 hours, users have turned to other platforms such as Telegram which in a single day registered 70 million new users.

“I am proud of how our team has managed unprecedented growth because Telegram has continued to work flawlessly for the vast majority of our users. This is a record increase in user registration and activity” for the service. ” said Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram.

On the other hand, it was not easy to manage the situation, given that the high and unexpected number of active users on the platform created some slowdowns, particularly in the United States. After the return to normal of the Facebook group’s apps, most likely the great majority have returned to using mainly WhatsApp but could have kept Telegram in case of future blackouts.

WhatsApp, an avalanche of news arriving on the messaging app

whatsapp-696x365

WhatsApp is the most used messaging app in the world with over two billion people who actively converse and exchange multimedia content with friends, relatives, colleagues and simple contacts. The company, for years now, continuously improves improvements to keep up with the times and, above all, to contrast the increasingly fierce competition from different fronts.

Among the media that can be shared on WhatsApp there are stickers, or adhesives, which represent a way to explicitly express your mood in a creative way. Unlike other apps, WhatsApp allows you to officially share only static stickers, while animated ones can be downloaded directly from the app only after the installation of official updates in the past few hours. Unfortunately, however, WhatsApp did not give precise timing.

The stickers are therefore not new on WhatsApp, beacuse the app allows you to send and receive them for a long time, and also manage them from third-party sources. With the novelty, however, it becomes possible to download animated stickers directly from the application store, through a more reliable procedure than that possible today. The feature has already appeared for the first users on the latest client beta for iOS and Android.

According to rumors not yet officially confirmed, the company would also be working on the implementation of stickers with loop playback, even if the functionality has not yet been introduced on the clients of the service, even in the experimental variants.

The company has made official in the past few hours also several other news, including the arrival of QR codes (which have also appeared on beta versions for some time) to share their account, the dark mode also on WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop, and also other minor changes:

  • animated stickers: stickers are increasingly used to communicate on WhatsApp, and our users send billions of them every day. We are implementing new packages of animated stickers that are increasingly fun and expressive
  • QR codes: with new functions, adding a new contact will be even easier. To add a new contact, just frame its QR code. You no longer have to enter the number manually
  • dark mode for WhatsApp Web and Desktop: the beloved dark mode now also arrives on the computer
  • improvements to group video calls: now that you can start a video call with 8 participants, we’ve made it easier to focus on one participant at a time. Just hold down his video to view it in full screen. We have also added a video icon in chats with up to 8 participants, so you can start a group video call with one touch
  • the status also arrives on KaiOS: KaiOS users now have the function that allows you to share updates to the status for 24 hours

As we have already written, unfortunately, the WhatsApp team has not been precise on the timing within which the news will arrive. The blog says that they are scheduled for the “next few weeks”, for users who will update the client to the latest versions available for download.
