International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Resolution 54/134). The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rapedomestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden. For 2014, the official Theme framed by the UN Secretary-General’s campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women, is Orange your Neighbourhood. For 2018, the official theme is “Orange the World:#HearMeToo”, for 2019 it is “Orange the World: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape”, for 2020 it is “Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect!” and for 2021 it is “Orange the World: End Violence against Women Now!”.

Historically, the date is based on the date of the 1960 assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic; the killings were ordered by Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo (1930–1961). In 1981, activists at the Latin American and Caribbean Feminist Encuentros marked November 25 as a day to combat and raise awareness of violence against women more broadly; on February 7, 2000, the date received its official United Nations (UN) resolution.

The UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union have encouraged governments, international organizations and NGOs to organize activities to support the day as an international observance. For example, UN Women (the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women) observes the day each year and offers suggestions for other organizations to observe it. For 2014, the focus is on how violence cuts across all 12 of the critical areas of concern of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which turns 20 next year.

24th November (2021): Evolution Day

Evolution Day is a celebration to commemorate the anniversary of the initial publication of On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin on 24 November 1859. Such celebrations have been held for over a century, but the specific term “Evolution Day” for the anniversary appears to be a neologism which was coined prior to 1997. By highlighting Darwin’s contributions to science, the day’s events are used to educate about evolutionary biology. It is similar to the better-known Darwin Day, held on the anniversary of his birth (12 February 1809). It is unrelated to the secularization campaign by the Giordano Bruno Foundation to have the German public holiday of Ascension Day renamed to “Evolutionstag” (Evolution Day).

1909, the 50th anniversary of the publication of On The Origin of Species and the 100th anniversary of Darwin’s birth, saw several major events celebrating both. At Cambridge, more than 400 scientists and dignitaries from 167 countries met in a widely reported event of public interest to honour Darwin’s contributions and discuss the latest discoveries and ideas related to evolution, the New York Academy of Sciences held a celebration at the American Museum of Natural History, and the Royal Society of New Zealand held an event with “a very large attendance”.

The Darwin Centennial Celebration (1959) had a major, well publicised event from 24–28 November at the University of Chicago.

In 2009, the BBC aired BBC Darwin Season, a series of television and radio programs, to celebrate Darwin’s bicentenary and the 150th anniversary of the publication of the Origin.

♬ ALICIA KEYS – Best of Me

LYRIC

You get the side of me
I would hold back and not reveal
You feed the mystery
You are my red and my blue pill
It makes me come alive
Don’t be a lie, it feels so real
You get the best of me

We can live on
The air
Do you understand?
Do you understand?
Do you understand?

Ha
Baby baby
We gotta rock forever
Ha
Baby baby
We gotta rock forever
(Forever)
Ha, ha
You get the best of me
Ha, ha
You got a way to make me feel

Together
If you were mines then we could build a castle from tears
Only dry eyes, I would love on you for years
I’ll never want another baby, let’s just be real
Ooh

Ha
Baby baby
We gotta rock forever
Forever baby
Ha
Baby baby
We gotta rock forever
(Forever)
Forever baby
Ha, ha
You get the best of me
Ha, ha
You got a way to make me feel

Black Friday is increasingly awaited, but this year the discounts are not as in the past (due to the covid crisis)

There are two days to black friday

But now the more the years go by, the more anticipated black friday is, as if it were a ritual or a unique event.
I still remember before 2016 when black friday was practically unknown outside the united states, while today everyone knows what it is, even if probably few know its meaning and that is the Friday after the last Thursday of the month which would be the Thanksgiving Day.
When I was a boy, Christmas decorations began at the beginning of December or even after the immaculate … nowadays someone even dares to display decorations and at the end of October, and for me this is an absurd thing.

This year, however, I do not see particular offers, especially on the alien world of amazon, where in recent years there were unattainable prices for other shops, so much so as to send entire local economies of various nations into crisis.
This is mainly due to the fact that this year there is a crisis in finding semiconductors due in turn to the unavailability of Silicon. All this has repercussions in the technology sector, but also on other sectors such as cars or toys.
So If you want to shop with blackfriday super discounts, think carefull!

DuckDuckGo introduces a new tool to its browser to prevent apps from leaving traces on the internet

Most people use google chrome or firefox to browse the internet.
Although firefox is one of the best browsers (for computers and smartphones) there is an even better one (but only for smartphones) from the point of view of privacy: duckduckgo.
Maybe not everyone knows it but duckduckgo is also an alternative search engine to google.
As a search engine I don’t think it is up to par as many search results are not as relevant as google (or bing) but as a search engine it is unsurpassed.

A new tool from DuckDuckGo tries to prevent Android apps from tracking and tracking user data. It’s called App Tracking Protection, and it’s meant to offer greater protection from third-party trackers even over Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature, introduced starting with iOS 14.5, which allows users to disable app tracking.

The news was reported by the same development team, which explains that the tool was not released as an update, nor as a dedicated app. Those who request to try the new anti-tracking tool must download the DuckDuckGo Privacy Browser from the Play Store and enable the feature. The Tracking Protection App will then work at the system level, and not just on the browser, preventing the tracking of data by third-party apps among those installed on the device.
