The first floating city in the world will be built on the Maldives Islands, hosting 20,000 inhabitants.

It will be called Maldives Floating City will have a coral shape and will be completed by 2027, but some residents will start moving as early as 2024. The project, created by real estate developer Dutch Docklands and the Maldives government, has a much more useful and profound goal. compared to that of the simple futuristic experiment.

Maldives: a floating city to combat rising waters
In detail, the area where the Maldives archipelago rises – made up of 1,190 low islands – is among the most exposed and vulnerable to climate change. Consequently, the construction of a large floating city is conceived as a “must-have” and practical solution to combat rising ocean water levels.

“This project can demonstrate that there are affordable housing, large communities and normal cities on the water that are also safe. They (the Maldivians) will move from climate refugees to climate innovators,” Koen Olthuis, founder of Waterstudio, told CNN. .

Inside the floating island will be built houses, schools and shops that will be fixed by stabilizers that support it against the waves while keeping the buildings and structures safe against the current.

To Recharge electrified ships directly at sea with offshore charging buoy

Reducing pollution from the sea does not only mean building fully electric ships, but also and above all trying to reduce emissions from boats that are currently impossible in fully electric boats. An important share of these emissions comes from journeys in port or from ships that are waiting offshore, often for days.

Maersk Supply Service, part of the Danish naval giant Maersk, is launching Stillstrom, a new subsidiary dedicated to the development of offshore electric charging buoys. The buoy would be directly connected to wind farms, or even to the mainland, to allow ships to dock and recharge batteries on board. The energy stored would be used for all operations on board, allowing the endothermic engines to be turned off and, in the case of hybrid ships, also providing propulsion for maneuvers near the mainland.

The Danish wind giant Ørsted will collaborate on the project, presenting a buoy by the third quarter of 2022, with which it will feed its SOV (Service Operations Vessels). Ørsted itself will take care of the integration of the charging point into the network, and will make public the intellectual properties generated during the design.

Program manager at Maersk Supply Service, Sebastian Klasterer Toft, made the study’s objectives clear: “The mission is to remove 5.5 million tonnes of CO2 within five years of commercial launch, further eliminating particulates, nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides “.

Sabaudia (Latina) [3] – PHOTO October

other photos of sabaudia .. these photos in particular show the lake near the coast. The town, as you can see, can boast of a lot of greenery, even if for most of the year the heat and humidity make the area full of insects. The city, founded by Mussolini, has wide streets, designed and engineered according to the canons of that time. Although it was October (and especially the small town that does not boast a great tourism) I was able to see some visitor-tourists.

Sperlonga (Latina) – PHOTO October 2021

I arrived in Sperlonga on an autumn afternoon. Despite the poor light and the desolate beaches, Sperlonga has distinguished itself for being one of the most beautiful towns on the Latina coast. Perched on a hill overlooking the sea, it has beaches on both sides, which are protected by promoters both on the sea and inland. This makes it one of the hottest areas in central Italy. In addition, there are also nearby lakes that contribute to making the area humid but with mild winters, comparable only to those of Sud od Italy.

Terracina (Lazio) – PHOTO October 2021

Terracina is a very large town on the coast of Latina. It has a very long promenade with wide sidewalks and cycle paths next to the road, where people walk or jog. I was there in October and although it was already autumn there were many people walking along the promenade. The town is one of the mildest in Lazio, and perhaps also in southern Italy (excluding the islands). The town is located more close to Naples than to Rome and in fact it is affected by the Neapolitan influence.

Marina di Latina (Lazio) – PHOTO – October 2021

The coast of Latina is very beautiful. It is almost uncontaminated and the road passes near the sea, being able to witness a breathtaking landscape: on one side the sea and on the other side the mountains and lakes. This area once did not exist, that is, it was completely marshy: it was reclaimed in the early 1900s by Benito Mussoloni. Over the course of history this land has been reclaimed several times, but without success because the area collects all the waters of the surrounding mountains and does not flow water towards the sea. Paradoxically, only with Fascism has it been possible to restore these areas.

Nettuno (Rome) – PHOTO – October 2021

Neptune is the name of an ancient Roman divinity of the sea. Then it was used to name the planet of the solar system. Neptune is also a pretty Roman town in the southern part of the province. I visited it in October, in a climate that seemed vaguely autumnal, but rather late in the summer … The town’s beaches are wide, and many buildings overlook the sea. The city is almost attached to another famous city: Anzio. The beaches allowed me to take a lot of photos as well as videos … The port is large, not very large. The city is one of the most popular destinations after Ostia (the only real beach in the municipality of Rome).
