The European Parliament has expressed itself: we are moving towards a ban on the sale of petrol and diesel vehicles starting from 2035

From 2035 it will no longer be possible to sell new endothermic cars. It is on this premise that the European Parliament expressed itself on 8 June. A result that did not come easily, and which led to a split in the majority, and which will have to be confirmed in the EU Council. Now, in fact, there is a negotiation phase, with the document that will be passed on to the Commission for the interinstitutional negotiations envisaged by the European regulations with the EU Council. It is therefore a new series of negotiations between Parliament, the Council and the Commission.

Beyond the frictions, however, this is an epochal moment, with the part dedicated to 4 wheels which was welcomed with 339 votes in favor, 249 against and 24 abstentions. The document follows the Fit for 55 plan strongly desired by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen with the aim of drastically reducing CO2 emissions.

Ursula von der Leyen

Rejected the amendments proposed by the EPP, with which it was asked to apply the obligation of zero emissions to 90% of the entire car fleet, instead of 100%. This may allow for the introduction of 10% of new thermal vehicles from 2035 onwards, making the provision less restrictive. However, the fact that the amendments did not provide for a deadline for this derogation ran counter to the climate neutrality target already set for 2050. The two amendments were rejected with 264 votes in favor, 328 against and 10 abstentions.

The amendment that passed, however, is the so-called “save Motor Valley”, expressly addressed to Italy with an exemption on CO2 emissions standards up to 2036 reserved for those houses that produce a maximum of 10 thousand vehicles per year . This is obviously a proposal aimed at protecting the car companies of the Italian Motor Valley that focus on quality rather than quantity.

The majority in Parliament was not cohesive, in the vote on the controversial trading system for emissions quotas (Ets) with which the aim is to tax CO2 emissions is suitable for road transport and boilers, including domestic ones. The reform was blocked by the Socialists after an EPP amendment was passed in the classroom which postponed the elimination of the free emission allowances enjoyed by large European industry to the period between 2028 and 2034 (originally scheduled for 2026-32). The chapters Ets, Social Fund for the Climate and carbon tax at the borders thus return to the Environment Committee.

The struggle of the Italian Premier CONTE in Europe that does not exist …

a

Inequalities and disagreements continue within the European Union. In recent days there have been many summits among the heads of state, who have discussed the 2021-2027 budget with which the post-pandemic recovery fund, the famous recovery fund, is associated.
The Italian Premier Conte has repeatedly expressed his dissent towards the heads of state that put countries like Italy in check. It has been a long time since Italy has had such a prominent Premier, which imposes itself in Europe with authority, but also with demeanor and diplomacy. In particular, what recriminates Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte is that countries like Holland (Denmark, Belgium, etc ..) that have few inhabitants, manage to impose decision-making power disproportionate to their size. This obviously undermines the whole balance of the European union. In fact, the Nordic (and Scandinavian) countries have always been long-lived in the state budgets and the state saving fund is obviously different from state to state …
It is increasingly a Europe that does not exist.
I think this premier is the last hope to fix policies within the continent, which has never existed for integrity and community policies …

International Women’s Day 2020

The FEMM International Women’s Day 2020 event, scheduled for March 5, 2020, has been canceled. Because of coronavirus epidemic (COVID-19), the President of the European Parliament has announced that over the next three weeks, 130 events at Parliament’s headquarters, which should have been present for 6000 to 7000 participants, have been deleted.
————————————————– —————
The FEMM, in collaboration with the Directorate for Relations with National Parliaments, had planned to hold a meeting of the interparliamentary commission on the “25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and the platform of action” to celebrate International Women’s Day as an event. special, to return to reflect on progress made on gender equality and forward to anticipate future challenges.

The European Commission presented its strategy for equality between women and men in Europe. While the EU is a global leader in gender equality and has made significant progress in recent decades, gender-based violence and stereotypes continue to persist: one in three women in the EU has experienced physical and / or sexual violence. Although more women graduate from university, they earn on average 16% less than men and only 8% of the CEOs of the largest EU companies are women.

HISTORY

After the Socialist Party of America organized a Women’s Day in New York City on February 28, 1909, German delegates Clara Zetkin, Käte Duncker and others proposed at the 1910 International Socialist Woman’s Conference that “a special Women’s Day” be organized annually. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted by the feminist movement in about 1967. The United Nations began celebrating the day in 1975.

Commemoration of International Women’s Day today ranges from being a public holiday in some countries to being largely ignored elsewhere. In some places, it is a day of protest; in others, it is a day that celebrates womanhood.

Junker
